Germany offers several university and doctoral routes. The first practical question is who receives your application and assesses your previous qualification.

Research universities, universities of applied sciences and specialist arts institutions offer different learning environments. Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes coexist with subject-specific qualifications. Choose the programme and award that serve your goal rather than assuming every institution type has the same focus. Bachelor’s entry depends on the assessment of your school and any previous university education. A Master’s may require particular subject credits. Many public Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes have no tuition, but exceptions, private-university fees and semester contributions matter. Do not describe all German study as free. Ask the exact university for your programme and applicant category, including any non-EU fee. Include housing, insurance and the semester contribution in a full budget.

Use the DAAD database with the appropriate applicant-country and qualification filters. A deadline on another country’s DAAD office page may not apply to you. University scholarships and research positions are separate routes. Follow the university’s instructions for direct applications, uni-assist or another specified route. Where preliminary assessment is required, establish what you still have to submit afterwards. Deadlines differ by course, applicant category and intake. Do not apply a generic July or January date to every programme. The university’s exact intake page controls your planning. Funding and language-proof deadlines can fall earlier than admission.

Check the programme’s accepted German or English evidence and any conditions for conditional admission. A visa summary’s language level is not a substitute for programme requirements. Ask whether an interview or medium-of-instruction letter can satisfy a requirement only where the provider permits it.

uni-assist’s Belarus page asks degree holders for the diploma and supplement, in the original language and German or English translation. It also describes evidence of completed study years. Its rule requiring a Belarusian notary to attest a translator’s signature concerns translations from Belarus; do not assume it applies to a translation produced elsewhere. Country instructions.

The federal study-visa portal lists proof of funds of €11,904 for 2026 via a blocked account, with other permitted evidence routes.
