A scholarship application should show why you meet the funding programme’s criteria and what the support will enable you to do.

Read the selection criteria

Create one heading for each criterion in the call. Under it, list evidence from your actual education, work, research or community activity. This is an evidence map, not the final essay. It helps you avoid spending most of the application on points the assessors did not ask about.

Explain the proposed activity

Describe the programme or research you intend to undertake, its relevance to your background and a credible next step afterwards. If financial need is part of selection, explain it factually in the requested format. If need is not a criterion, do not assume a long hardship narrative will improve an academic assessment.

Check linked requirements

Establish whether an admission offer, nomination, host confirmation or separate application is required. Confirm when each must be provided. Review any restrictions on concurrent funding and any obligations attached to the award.

Review for consistency

Your CV, dates, proposed activity and budget should agree. Remove unsupported superlatives and replace them with examples. Follow the provider’s rules on authorship and AI assistance. Submit through the official route and keep the exact version.
