An academic CV records your research and teaching contribution. Its structure should fit the fellowship, department or academic role.

Put the relevant evidence first

For a research position, begin with education, research appointments and relevant outputs. For a teaching role, make teaching experience easy to locate. Useful sections may include methods, publications, presentations, grants, teaching, supervision, service and languages.

Describe outputs accurately

Separate published work, accepted work, preprints and work in preparation. Give complete enough references for a reader to identify each output. Describe your role in collaborative work, especially where author order is not informative. Include a repository or identifier only when it points to work you can appropriately share.

Explain the research trajectory

A short description of a project can help an assessor connect your methods and interests to the new position. If your work was interrupted, provide a concise chronology and emphasise what you are prepared to do next. Disclose sensitive circumstances only in the place and level of detail appropriate to the application.

Match the call

A narrative CV and a conventional list are different formats. Follow the requested headings and length. Do not add an invented publication, affiliation or grant. Ask referees before naming them when the application does not already define the procedure.

Your checklist

  • Outputs separated by publication status
  • Research and teaching roles clear
  • Format matched to the call
  • References and links checked
