Find support for academics at risk

At-risk academic support has different eligibility rules from ordinary student funding. Identify the type of help you need and the organisation that can assess your case.

Choose the appropriate pathway

Scholars at Risk offers academic placement and related support for eligible threatened scholars, rather than general student scholarships. Cara assesses academic background and risk for placements mainly in the UK. IIE Scholar Rescue Fund has a rolling fellowship application process. Philipp Schwartz funding requires a German host institution to apply.

Prepare a private overview

List your academic background, current work, available publications, immediate academic needs and whether you have a possible host. Share risk evidence only through the chosen organisation’s appropriate channel. Do not post it to the service’s Telegram group.

Follow programme-specific instructions

A nomination route and a direct application are not interchangeable. Check whether the scheme accepts applications now and what it asks of referees. IIE-SRF specifically discourages AI-generated application materials; use your own account and the provider’s instructions.

Keep expectations clear

Support is selective and may take time. An application is not an award or a promise of relocation. If a programme cannot assist, ask whether it can identify another relevant academic resource. Keep ordinary job and funding searches active where feasible.
