Maastricht University NL-High Potential Scholarship

Maastricht University offers 18 NL-High Potential scholarships annually for eligible international master's students. The scholarship covers tuition and specified living and other costs for 13 or 25 months. Applications for the 2027–2028 call are open from 1 October 2026 until 1 February 2027 at 23:59, with the complete master's admission application due by 10 December 2026.

Funding
18 full scholarships annually. Living expenses of €20,150 for 13 months or €38,750 for 25 months; health and liability insurance of €700; tuition fees, visa application and pre-academic training costs covered at cost; International Student Ambassador Programme costs covered for the first block only. Air tickets, admission handling fees and an approximately €75 cleaning fee are not covered.
Eligibility
Applicants must hold nationality outside the EU/EEA, Switzerland and Surinam, have no dual EU/EEA or Swiss nationality, and meet Dutch entry visa and residence permit requirements. They must apply to a participating full-time master's programme for 2027–2028, meet its admission requirements, be no older than 35 on 1 September 2027, and have a GPA of at least 7.5 out of 10. Previous degree-seeking higher education in the Netherlands is disqualifying; previous exchange study is allowed. Preference is given to applicants without a master's degree.

How to apply
Submit the complete master's admission application by 10 December 2026 and the scholarship application through the application form using a UM account by 1 February 2027 at 23:59. Required documents include a CV of no more than two A4 pages, the motivation-letter template, academic transcript or official GPA document, grading-system explanation, financial-needs statement, reference letter dated no earlier than February 2026, and referee contact details. Only one scholarship application may be submitted, and documents cannot be added or replaced afterward. Recipients must accept the allocated room, participate in mandatory two-week pre-academic training and undertake ambassador activities.
