Overview

Start with a programme that fits your qualification and language, then check funding and immigration eligibility separately. Belarus is absent from the scholarship country list linked by Study in Latvia. Belarusian applicants should also confirm their individual residence route before making non-refundable payments.

How the system works

Use the national study portal to identify an institution and its programme requirements. The application sequence includes assessment of previous education rather than simply uploading a diploma and paying. Study in Latvia: entrance requirements

Study levels

For a bachelor’s, ask about school-subject requirements; for a master’s, check the required degree background. Doctoral candidates should contact the relevant department about supervision, selection and funding before submitting a general admission application.

Tuition and living costs

Request the tuition fee for your citizenship and programme, any registration charge, and the refund policy if residence permission is refused. A scholarship contribution should not be treated as a full living-cost budget.

Scholarships and funding

The state scholarship is a contribution rather than full funding; travel and insurance are not automatically covered. Applicants need the required university confirmation. The linked eligible-country list does not include Belarus: Belarusian citizenship alone therefore does not establish eligibility. Ask VIAA about the current call if you hold another relevant citizenship or status. Study in Latvia: scholarships Latvian state scholarships: eligible countries

Admissions

The portal describes programme selection, application, recognition of documents, possible examinations/interview, and the study agreement. Institutions have their own detailed requirements. Confirm the sequence before paying. Study in Latvia: entrance requirements

Application periods

Confirm the next available intake directly with the institution. Scholarship calendars and university calendars are separate. An annually recurring scheme is not evidence that its next round is already open.

Language requirements

Confirm the teaching language, accepted proof and any interview requirement with the programme. Do not assume an English-language website means that every degree is taught in English. Study in Latvia: entrance requirements

Recognition of Belarusian qualifications

Recognition of previous education is part of the national portal’s admission sequence. Ask who submits your documents for assessment and how long to allow; missing transcripts should be discussed before the deadline. Study in Latvia: entrance requirements

Residence and work

Use PMLP for residence information. This general guidance does not resolve nationality-specific eligibility for a first application, renewal or change of purpose. Belarusian applicants should obtain confirmation from PMLP and the university for their own situation before paying non-refundable fees; separately confirm work conditions. PMLP: residence permits

Next steps

  1. Confirm both academic and residence eligibility.
  2. Request an individual fee quotation.
  3. Check the scholarship’s eligible-country list.
  4. Submit documents through the institution’s official process and retain payment/refund terms.
